Hard to believe it is 40 years ago today - I recall where I was as well - Visiting the BMF (British Music Fair in London)

As some would say - a great career move as the estate still sells big time time today

Indeed ... being dead seems to be no obstacle to selling music ... just means you keep selling the same thing.

There will come a time when rock stars model every which way so a computer can recreate their live shows with 3 day holograms or something. That way being dead won't stop you gig'ing .......... actually I'm sure at least 2 of the guys I gig with in one band are actually dead :)

I was a huge Elvis fan and took news of his death a lot worse than I did Lennon's. Would be a different story now mind but he was The King od rock & roll

Well you, for one, wouldn't buy the theory that he's living on the moon ;-)

My boss told me "dress for the job you want, not the job you have"... now I'm sat in a disciplinary meeting dressed as Batman.

Weird .I worked in the record industry for a shop and wholesale dealer .I was returning from France with a van full of Elvis French picture bag 45's  that no-one wanted  .We paid very little for them .When I reached UK customs they checked out my van and the customs guy said that these would be popular .When I asked why he told me about his death  .big shock .As suddenly Elvis records were at a premium we made a lot of money from those picture bags  ..so cheers Elvis .I didnt want you to die but your timing was perfect .

Elvis still sells records for sure but the memorabilia sector (which includes vintage/secondhand records) is in deep trouble - probably because anyone Gen X or younger just doesn't have any interest in the 'tat', even if they do like the music.

Of course, he's not really dead.

I was chatting to the guy who works in the chip shop and he told me.
Having trouble posting images here?  This might help.

Yeah, I remember it coming on the news, at home with my mum, who was a big elvis fan. We were both absolutely stunned.
so if you fancy a reissue of a guitar they never made in a colour they never used then it probably isn't too overpriced.

I heard a story today that I'd not heard before about Elvis, Vegas and Col Parker - Most know what a hold Parker had over Elvis and he was frankly a poor manager - But Parker loved to gamble but the Vegas hierarchy did not mind clearing his debts providing they kept Elvis in Vegas - It is alleged that Parker had to let some of his share of Elvis revenue pass over to the mob due to a higher level of debt

I'm probably in the minority but I've never got the whole Elvis thing, to my mind he was just a glorified karaoke singer, i can think of many other people more deserving of the title "King of rock and roll"
Some of the songs are cool, but over rated in my humble opinion
