  • There's a '61 reissue SG in the classifieds with a headstock break...

  • If they're in really short supply, why not buy one without a break and break it yourself?

Much like my guitar playing - I wear my influences somewhat obviously....

I suspect with less bands gigging, more venues closing and more bedroom players affording Gibsons the proportion of Gibsons being er....,  modified in this way is lower than it would have been in the past. But there are still a heck of a lot of Gibsons being sold to someone (for now).
I also suspect that the more middle aged players that have finally afforded a cracked headstock can hold on to it rather than have to sell it for groceries as younger players are/were more likely to do in the past.

    We'll probably never really know.

@ESBlonde That sounds like a reasonably plausible suggestion. I remember that they used to crop up all the time - or maybe it just seemed that way and they stuck in my mind as being bargains.

  • Modern Gibsons don't get headstock breaks very easily.  They use a special joint now, along with some kind of reinforcement.  They never announced this as they didn't want to publicly acknowledge the problem.  If you don't believe me try leaning a modern Gibson again a wall and kicking it.
