Where have all the broken headstock Gibsons gone?

What's Hot

I've been on the hunt for an ES Gibson, ideally a ES-330, but I've not managed to raise all the funds I need to buy the lovely pristine one that I'm hoping to buy. (So buy my guitars!) However, I've never been put off by a well repaired neck break on a Gibson - not least because it then means I cease worrying about being the guy who breaks it. So I've been looking out for one, but haven't seen one anywhere. Where are they all? I used to see broken headstock Gibsons for sale quite regularly but I hardly see them now. What's happened to them? Have the values dropped so much people are just keeping them? Has everybody else worked out that pre-broken eases Gibson headstock anxiety? :) Or maybe they've stopped breaking?  :o

It's only cos you go to rowdy pub gigs, act like a drunk, and knock over as many Gibsons as you can find...

@Harryseven Any tips for finding them? I'm guessing they don't get advertised as such. :/

Yeah, basically. I think people who had pre-70's 330's were pissed about selling them for £1500 or maybe £2000 if it was a nice looker. I've seen Epi Elitists go for £1500!
In 2008 I had a really great 330 with a repaired neck break and an aftermarket Bigsby and I sold it for 3k, which would absolutely never happen now.

@JDE  I guess you're right. But it's not just ES-330s. I can't find many repaired-headstock Gibsons of any model currently on sale. I suppose they are out there but maybe hard to spot?

Maybe they're being more professionally repaired and sold without telling anyone :).
