Numberplate or elder god?

What's Hot

I have invented a new method for amusing oneself while travelling the country's highways and byways.

One simply tests whether the numberplates in view would make good Elder God names.

Today's winner was KA57RTH. Or Kas'trth, the Munificent, who spreads the joy of plague far and wide via her infinite tendrils of foetidity.

  • Yellow car punch brings back memories.

Me and ladyprettydamned also play with number plates. We like making up animal names, although deities is a good idea too.

I saw a private plate this morning whilst on my way to work, I didn't note the first half, but the last 3 letters were "JSM", which from a distance looks like............

Ringleader of the Cambridge cartel, pedal champ and king of the dirt boxes (down to 21)

My daughters wind me up all the time with Yellow car punch!

I play a game where I have to come up with a word that uses the three consecutive letters on a numberplate in that order. Bonus points if you start and end with the first and third letter. Lose a point if you can't make a word before passing the car or losing sight of the numberplate.

My old Dad used to be a sales rep, in the days when a mk1 Escort 1100 was the height of car technology.

Some days I got to travel a few hundred miles with him and we'd play the alphabet game.

A through to whatever it was back in those days (probably M or so), as a suffix.

I guess that game is viable again now?

  • I've invented my own game for when you spot a caravan, called medieval or wildlife. Fairly self explanatory I think.
Oddly it seems 90% of caravan names fall into these categories.
Shot through the heart, and you’re to blame, you give love a bad name. Not to mention archery tuition.

I like to work out which drivers with vanity plates aren't knobs.
    Turns out they all are.

  • I and my wife like to personalise some plates even when they mean nothing. A feckwit neighbour had a registration that went CEnn PPY, so we called him Keppy so we could say things like:

"That Keppy wanker has deliberately left 2/3 of a car space each side of his car again".
    "Box that twat Keppy in".

    etc.

To be honest I've found it depends. One of my neighbours has several expensive plates on several expensive cars, possibly an "investment" made by his company, and he's a fairly decent chap who was the only one who bothered to invite us around when we moved in to the area.

I find the most nobbish plates are those where the owner has clearly paid no more than £50 and is stretching all known rules of grammar, syntax and character spacing to come up with something which still looks like an alien language. I'd like the owners of these plates to be nobs as this would make me feel comfortable in my snap judgements. I'm never likely to meet such a person so I think my view of the world will remain as is for the time being.
