Talk to me about Suhr Modern Pro's!

I'm really starting to realise that a mahogany body isn't for me, I need tight lows and it's not happening. I'm always looking out for that hair metal 80's sound, love it or loath it. It's a high gain tone I love and I can't seem to get it with the PRS. 

I'm thinking that a Suhr Modern Pro, from all the demos Ive heard, will nail it and be a lot brighter and tighter than the PRS. And will be versatile to not only cover my in er 80's but a lot of other stuff too. What do you think?

Peach is pretty much the otherside of the country for me, so before I take a long road trip I'd like to hear your thoughts please :-)

They are awesome.
I have two.

Don't get the Floyd unless you absolutely have to- the regular 510 trem is fine.

I prefer the suhr standards... 

Though have to say the opposite.. I get better 80s "tone" from PRS. I must be the only person who doesn't care about that, though - it's all about the notes!

The 22 fret standard feels better in the hand, personally speaking.

@octatonic you've got the one I want right there, minus the Floyd. Can you get a regular trem with a recess? That guitar is stunning!

@thomasross20 what makes you say you get better 80s tone with a PRS, what PRS have you got, and what pickups? That's interesting indeed.

Not with a Modern Pro.
If you order a custom order then you can have what you want but more moneys.

My PRS is reviewed in the guitar section on this site, mahogany body, ebony fretboard and maple neck, 57/08 pickups.

@octatonic ah ok, that makes sense. You think the regular trem is as good as a floyd for some Van Halen and 80s stuff? I know it's probably not, but can I get close? Not particularly wanting to go Floyd tbh.

I mostly play the red one.
The trem is just better with the 510.
The Floyd is fine but if I could sell it for what I could get another 510 equipped one for then I would.

There is nothing I can't do with the 510 really.

If you fancy that option go British. Haydn Williams, Feline, Rob Williams etc...

Quicker and cheaper if based here. I'd wager at least equal build quality too.

I'm sure they would be. Unfortunately at that price range, as fickle as it sounds, I need some sort of reassurance of resale value. Which the name Suhr on the headstock would sort of help. I'm terrible with flipping stuff I shouldn't.

With a caveat- if you want to pull up more than a tone on the G string then you will have to really crank the rear springs.

On resale- buy used if you can, Suhr suffers from poor resale, not as bad as Tom Anderson (another brand I have two of) but not far off.

Yes, I agree, but they'd sell easier than some lesser known (equally amazing, I'm sure) brands.

For sure but given the market right now I only buy guitars that I will be happy to own forever.

What pickups are in your PRS @Jonathanthomas83 ?

I do think a Strat type with longer scale will sound tighter than a PRS, but I've never struggled with tight out of mine.  It could be pickup related, unless you specifically want the more snappy attack of something closer to a Strat - in which case the Suhr will suit you more
