Another NGD, 78 year old Gibson

What's Hot
HI all so its been a pretty amazing week, first I had my truly brillant Songwriter from @Bridgehouse ; which is my go everythere do everything Acoustic, then @Nitefly has to pipe up with an offer I cant refuse in a trade for my Martin.

So I now have my old 40s Gibson L50 back, its a War time guitar, where they had to use as little metal as possible, with a non adjustable truss, Rosewood string bar, and the thickest neck in the world.
1950s Framus Pickup which sounds lovely and actually makes this a viable guitar for a fair bit of Electric duties.

I forget how warm this sounds, its totally different to the Songwriter, and a great guitar for around the house playing (its to old and delecate to take out)
Tuners are Stewmac period correct replacements and the old (destroyed tuners are in the case)
The action was so low (without buzzing) it feels like playing an electric (infact I had to higher it as it was too low...and I like a low action).
So all in all I am very happy and along with the song writer have another keeper, now I just have to find the cash for a decent p90 solid body!

    Wow.

Also, the first known use of the silver flake Sharpie pen, which is a bonus.

    (Never knew about the truss.)

*An Official Foo-Approved guitarist since Sept 2023.

Man that's beautiful, and I'm not into acoustics Gibson did some beautiful stuff in their day.  Also like the other one, never seen the ES-175 type inlays on an acoustic, love that look

What's the story with the "spots" on the nut?  Dirt, holes?

    And congratulations

Edit - not meant as a knock or anything, but the lacquer is pretty intact, no obvious cracking which you'd definitely see on later solid bodies. I know squat about acoustics, or Gibsons of this era in general, is that typical?

  • @clarkefan m8 I'm glad you asked and obviously didn't take it any way other than a damn good question! From the looks of it it looks like holes in the bone, I have taken a close up so if anyone knows pipe up :)

@Bridgehouse I didn't realise the songwriter was up for grabs. I'm going to be in soooooo much trouble.
    Cracking guitar though.
