Strymon sunset

Does anyone know if one can change to the favourite preset using a looper/switcher like a Boss ES 5 or similar. I have no room for another external favourite switchbof theirs etc

    The manual states:

Connect MiniSwitch or other external latching footswitch with a TRS cable to store and recall your Favorite setting.

So I reckon it will work. I have the Sunset but no switcher to try it with

Not sure if they covered it but That Pedal Show did a review of the Sunset and Dan may have had it running through the G2, have a look back and see if he covered the Fav switch

  • Yep, as said in your other thread, it does work - just switch the assign or patch message to toggle not momentary. People seem to have trouble when they use a normal cable not TRS, but thats it.

Yeah I did see it but didn't want to de rail the thread.

So it eill go onto a loop or the Control port of the ES 5/8

Both - signal through one loop, and TRS from Cnt1/2 or 3/4 into the favourite port.

Check the ES-8 FB group for people that have done it, for instance:

What they do say is true in that thread, if you switch from one patch with Fav set on, to another one without - it will drop the fav being on- so you need to keep that in for each patch if thats important to you. But it's exactly the same for amp switching

One more thing setting the switch to latching is that different from the default on the ES 5? What the difference from latching and toggle? As far as I can see they're the same thing. Momentary is very different which would need an assign to change it

In patch setting no, that is latching/toggle - so you change to a patch with it enabled and it's on or off. If you set it to an assign you essentially change a buttons role to an on/off switch, this can either be momentary (allowing you to either use as a tap tempo for a flint, DD-3 etc, or you can use it as a press to boost) or latching - press one for on, again for off and also assign an LED to that switch to show is the fav on or off. You get to choose, but for the flint etc, you can set to either, set the mode in the flint and you can use it for fav recall or tap tempo.

When you use an assign you need to say whichever way you want.

Patches work well if you will change patch per song section, i.e intro, verse, chorus, solo etc. But you need to set per song unless each is the same.

Many others use assigns so 1, 2, 3, 4, are used to switch between main sounds, and then buttons 5, 6, 7, 8 are used to be a boost (like your fav switch, bring in mod, delay and say tap tempo). This is much easier with the 8 v's 5 as you have more buttons to do this, plus the bank up and down buttons so you can sacrifice spots on a bank and free them up for assigns.

There is no right or wrong, but you can set it anyway you want.

Yeah I get what you are saying. Not sure why I would want to use an assign to make it work. I just select presets/patches etc. I guess I don't go into such depths with ES 5 which is probably why I chose the ES 5 as I don't use that many functions. Nice to know it has the capability to do what I when whenever I want
