Southside in Brooklyn is a proper treat if you like players grade vintage. Super nice guys too. Main Drag in Brooklyn is really good for pedals and synths. Didn't realise Ludlow was no longer on Ludlow Street (???), but it was great for pedals too.

Guitar centre somewhere up in mid town is also awesome. Loads of vintage guitars, they don't care if you play them, and I saw Billy Gibbons there!

Main Drag is wicked for pedals and synths yeah, but not the place for really rare vintage stuff. 

I really liked 30th Street Guitars too, that had also moved to 27th St. (or somewhere) due to extortionate rents when I was in NY about a year ago...

I really have no idea how stores survive there...
