Any thoughts on these?

Or should I just go with a CV50?

Edit: Picture fixed.

  • The classic 70's would look a lot nicer with either a black or tortie scratchplate

  • Japanese as an anaemic looking neck, i'd pick the Classic 50's.

One step at a time.  May as well go for the 50s with the black scratchplate then?

That's a Japanese one too.  I dunno if the picture do it justice. Will the pickups be different?

I wouldn't have either of them, they've built them upside down!

My choice is obvious because I always go for the plain wood finish

I am assuming that some grain shows through on both but one definitely more. I am leaning that way but only just.

£729 - 749 ought to get you a pre-owned American Standard with hardshell case.

    Even an upside-down one?

(I know it sounds weird but I generally prefer new.)

I haven't tried any so far.

I have found the RTE 54 in left hand for less than 300 quid from one place only on the internet. Will it have the build quality of a the Japanese Fender?
Do you know what the neck specification is?

The same seems to go for the Vintage LV52.

Nothing much in a location I can try first.

Less than 300 quid seems a no-brainer but I need some really glowing recommendations from here so I won't still be wanting that F headstock.  I would like to try a vintage 7.25 radius - you know how these irrational desires sometime enter your brain. Well I have one for board with more of a radius.  Maybe 9.5 would ok?

Thanks for the info @notanon ;; .This thread isn't going the way I expected it too  B

For the revelation: The neck I guess is Marmite love or hate it. It is a tapered V shape down to a more conventional C profile. It was in a guitar shop in Bristol and I have a feeling they set it up rather than it being straight out of the box. They were selling for £20 more than others. Then brexit kicked on and they are selling for £65 more. The fretwork was excellent, after 15 minutes of playing I really enjoyed that neck. The guy in the shop was an elderly player and explained why the pickups are 'more authentic'. Obviously he is a salesman but it really did have that Tele twang in bucket loads. If that was out of the box setup then phenomenal value.

Not sure of the Vintage. I love the look of the road worn telecaster and the reviews are very very good. My Vintage acoustic is certainly good build quality.

The Revelation won't be as good as a Japanese Fender, but they are some of the best I've seen out of China. They do need fret dressing and a set up, I have 2 Revelations (VTX 64 and RVJT) and after some time with a Luthier they are really really good. Only downside is that they don't have the resale value of a Fender.

I know you said you prefer new..... but if you saved abit more cash you could get a 52 AVRI 2nd hand, all ones I've played are great, and you get the classic look, resale is good as well if you did not get on with the 7.5 radius

G&L tribute asat? Looks like a nice plank. 9" rad.  What is the neck like?
Sell it to me (not yours obv.).

(Around £500 from Thomann or Richard's Guitars.)

I've USA g n l asat. They are 2nd hand bargain. The tributes are supposed to be very good, I've not played one. I took abit of a risk and bought blind, turned out a great buy. It happened to be the actual guitar reviewed in guitarist about 15 years ago, have the mag somewhere, it is mint. Also liked the fact the cert was signed by Leo Fender
