Noob question about wiring a pot

Hi,

I have a question about this part of a schematic:

https://imgur.com/a/nLyfJ

Does this mean that I have to do all the following:

- wire pin 1 to pin 2
- wire pin 1 to ground
- wire pin 2 to ground
- wire pin 3 to the rest of the circut (ie the resistor and cap)

Please let me know if I have this incorrect!

Before answering this question, it will be necessary to agree on a pot terminal numbering convention.

Then, it will be necessary to confirm the function that you require the pot to perform. Guitar volume, guitar tone, guitar blend, amp bias et cetera.
You say, atom bomb. I say, tin of corned beef.

    Pin 1 goes to ground
    Pin 2 goes to ground
Pin 3 goes to the resistor and cap

What is the circuit for - something like a presence control which is in a negative feedback circuit? If not, turning the pot 'up' will reduce high frequencies.

Sorry here is the full schematic. it's a bias pot for an overdrive pedal.

    Thanks ICBM, very helpful.

    Thank you. Context is important.

Remote problem solving from incomplete information is like trying to decorate a hallway, with a toothbrush, through the letterbox.
