I’m always happy to show close ups. Because I don’t like removing large areas of paint to show “ageing”. That’s not necessary most of the time although it’s still fun to have the odd crazy moment. This particular body is definitely more about the details, as you can see in the photo. I don’t dip my nickel parts in buckets of acid, I don’t wire wool my pickguards and all of the paint is still on the body.

A customer of mine had a guitar made for him a good few years ago, for reasons seen in the photo below he never quite liked the finish

That’s a one piece swamp ash body which has no grain filler or clear coat, just a weird tinted cream or blonde of some description. 

I’ll not bore you with the details here and now but needless to say I think it’s looking rather excellent now

Ta muchly, I’m never sure how things like this go down with people. You spend that long making it beautifully flat, glossy and sparkly only to do this as the end. But I think the ageing against such an OTT finish looks cool, it works particularly well with the gold

Dakota red over gold paisley telecaster. The customer gave me the neck and parts, I did the body and Ernie Mcmillen did the rewire and assembly inc some minor fretwork. It took a while due to the nature of the finish but it’s looking awesome.

Thank you, I’m aiming by o do a few more of these in the future but primarily the flake work will be NOS for the most part.

The one above is one of my bodies with a Fender CS neck. The plastics are mine. The customer wanted a really aged lacquer look with minimal wear through.

Okay.. scratchplates/pickguards - I’ve been doing a lot of work on this for months and months and I’m delighted with how it’s going.

Unfortunately, it’s necessary to show a typical example of what not to do (this came in with a body for refinishing)

It looks like it’s been scuffed down and sprayed with orange/amber tint. It actually feels quite rough to the touch, I suspect an aerosol has been used to do this. Now, someone out there will like this and think it looks great. But in real life this thing is so bright it nearly glows. 

I’m happier with my efforts but it has taken a while to get it to this stage.
