Essential Boss pedals

What's Hot
NickBotfieldNickBotfield Frets: 143
If you were going to make a small pedalboard of stone cold Boss classics, what would you put on it?  So far I think I'd have:

SD-1
DS-1
DM-2 and DD-3 for a different flavour
CE-2

Anything else?  Slow Gear?  TU-2?

  • TU3, SD1, and DD7 for small (I like the DD20 too, haven’t tried the DD500)

  • MT2, clearly.

(FWIW I've never really loved any Boss pedals)

These, but I've never had waza so originals...

    Plus:

Df-2 - great distortion/chunky overdrive pedal with a super cool sustain feature that makes it a bit different. Perhaps not a popular classic, but an interesting box.

Dd-2 - it's a stone cold classic, great delay pedal

Sd-1 - because it's great and cheap. It's not my absolute favourite overdrive but it is magic with a less Paul and a marshall.

The GE-7 is great, can really change up the sound of any pedals in front of it

My home / grab for a jam board is>

    TU3 + BF2 + tube screamer )could easily be a SD1) + NS2 + DD20.

    does the job and bombproof

  • My current board is TU3, SD1, DS1, CH1, DM2w, DD7

If I could replace them with originals then that would be my choice. (Not sure I need to though, sound great!)

  • I'd have a PH-1R Phaser rather than a chorus, myself.

The HM-2 is considered a bit of a classic these days - not that I thought much of it when I had one.

    PH-2
    BF-2

Difficult to choose… too many good pedals and a lot of overlap.

    For me, probably:

    TU-2, FZ-2, OS-2, DF-2, OC-2, PH-1R, BF-2, CE-2, DM-2, DD-2

If I had to pick six of those (big BCB carrying case) it would be the TU-2, FZ-2, DF-2, PH-1R, BF-2, DM-2. If it was three (small BCB case) probably the DF-2, PH-1R and DM-2 and use a clip-on tuner.

The SD-1/DS-1 combination is a total classic, but rather more classic/hard rock oriented than I am.

TU-2 or 3 (I have one of each - I have two different boards)

CE-2 - the definitive chorus for me. Unlike later, more complex variants - it might not give you a lot of options - but the limited range it offers always sound superb.

    The original DD-2 was a ground-breaking - and great sounding - pedal.

The current DD-7 is a cracker too - the analog setting is really musical.

  • I enjoy this little combo. If I'm using a clean Marshall I'll swap out the sd1 for a bd2 so it's not so 'boxy'.

None, there are way better pedals available. The Boss pedal box/board is not too bad IMHO..

DD7 and SD1 for me. And a TU3 when my pitchblack dies. I really want to try an FZ2, sounds like an awesome fuzz for the kinda stuff I play. Hoping they do a waza version.
