Yeah... my lame humour isn't exactly subtle.

Well, I just tried to get away with an "I see" vs "icy" pun, so you're in good/bad company.

Besides which, subtle is for people who lack the courage of their convictions.

My wife swears by a dry sauna
Yes this absolutely ....sweat it out .........do it for 2 days but don't do a steam room or Hamam or you can get pneumonia

For me any fancy over the counter cures just suppress the symptoms and it takes longer to go, plenty of water, fruit and veg and healthy smoothies, maybe the odd paracetamol if the head is banging too much and stopping me from functioning.

Took the hot toddy advice just before bed last night. Didn't make me feel better and just seemed to be dreaming crap all night and waking up.
Back on the Beechams this morning, they do work.

As comforting as a hot toddy may be at the time alcohol is pretty crap as medicine, I love a drink but not when poorly

I'm sorry it didn't work for you. Works for me though. We can't all be the same. Hope you find what does work :)

Stromatolites are rather cool, arent they?

Excess sugar intake wont affect your immune system one bit - unless it is persistent and you have a faulty sugar-handling system (i.e diabetes). Diabetics get sick more often for a whole variety of reasons. It is an extremely complex disease. Yes, excess blood sugar is a problem, but not for the immune system in the short term.
Consuming a honey-laced potion will not cause your immune system (which generally works very well, and cant be boosted/weakened in the popular use of the term) to fail.
Things that *can* boost your immune system : vaccines.
Things that *can* weaken it : concurrent infection, severe nutritional deficit, intrinsic dysfunction of the systen.

    Cheers,
    Adam
thank you for the clarification re the sugar thing, Adam.

on a related tangent (as some have mentioned above) do you think it's possible to 'sweat a cold out'? eg, the sauna, curry, ginger approach? (obvs with due attention to hydration).

in my experience, subjective perceived benefit, i do feel this works for me. i put on my thermals and get into bed with the elec blanket set to 'nuclear fusion' for an hour or two while watching a film. then drink lots of water and hot shower the sweatiness off before bed.
i usually feel far more chipper when i wake up than when i went to bed. clear-headed, less achy. maybe i would have felt better in morning anyway, but hey ho. it's an easy enough thing to do and i feel it helps.

it's kind of a poor bitch's sauna, so maybe linkable to any known objectively quantifiable benefits from sauna-ing?

  • I can pin point the second it hit actually because I threw out my un trained voice a bit on video.

And then later in the week after my voice feeling a little tired, at the end, I had a cold.
