Not sure whether this is or isn’t a good thing. As someone who remembers staying up very late to watch Neil Armstrong set foot on the moon I think it’s pretty exciting. But it’s the line about ‘resource utilisation’ which concerns me. I assume this is a euphemism for mining. I’m guessing that, as a businessman, Mr Trump wouldn’t be doing this unless he thought there was money to be made.

While I’m always glad to hear of investment into space exploration, the moon seems a pretty small goal when Space X and Boeing are both shooting for Mars. 

Coming from Trump it all feels a bit “last century”

showing your age as well - I recall been at junior school and we all had to sit in the hall to watch this - so 200/300 kids sat on the floor watching a small portable black/white TV perched on the stage - A bit like watching a video clip on your mobile phone from 10 feet away - Strange what you remember - I recall the event and seen video clips since, but can't recall actually seeing anything at school on the TV - So yes I was excited but maybe not sure what it meant at the time - Then the following day we all took Fairy Liquid style plastic bottles in to school the following day to build a rocket - Blue Peter style

He (or rather Nasa) wants to go to the Moon and create a base for a trip to Mars. Nasa wants to study the radiation from cosmic rays to build the necessary tech to protect astronauts. To do that needs somewhere outside the Earth's magnetic shield and even a short trip to Mars will need a small base of some kind, according to Nasa.

Trump probably thinks there's mineral wealth that can be exploited.
