My MP for Ashford area is Damien Green, he's presently involved in a scandal regarding alledged porn on his work computer.

The MP up the road in Sevenoaks is Mike Fallon who recently quit as defence secretary due to alleged mis-conduct.

I'm presently working in Dover and the MP there is Charlie Elphicke whose is presently suspended following some serious allegations.

Yeah, my local MP's are great....

Are you trying to tell us that you're the other party in the Fallon and Elphicke cases, and the one who signed in on Green's computer using his username?   Are you a Russian spy?

My current mayor is Rosamund Dixon but I know fuck-all about her really. In any case, the mayors don't appear to do a lot, certainly not clearing the alligator-filled swamp that is Thanet District Council. I remember the last mayor had pink hair, she was a real hoot at the last function we attended.

My local MP is Craig MacKinlay. I've had professional dealings with him, and found him to be a top bloke, as was the previous MP, Sir Roger Gale.

  • I know our local MP, Chris Ruane, because he took his seat back from the useless wet Tory lettuce who took it from him in 2015.

I don't know or care about any current mayors but I do know (and used to know to speak to) the ex-mayor of my hometown, Denbigh. He was jailed for 18 years for manufacturing pipe bombs...

I'm in London, so I'd certainly recognise Sadiq Khan.  No idea who the current Lord Mayor of London is, though.

And my local MP is Chuka Umunna, so no problem recognising him either.  I haven't seen him out and about in the constituency much though, although I did see him once on the train.  His predecessor, Keith Hill, was a bit more visible locally, even though Labour were in government most of that time.
I'm in the constituency next to yours, with Labour's Rosena Allin-Khan as MP - who has little to no local visibility in comparison to her predessor Sadiq Khan.

  • MP is Liz Kendall, who I could pick out of a line-up. I know the Lord Mayor is Peter Soulsby, although I'm less familiar with his boat.

Never voted for him but ours is John redwood and he is a really good local MP; responds quickly and gets things done.  He gave our Highways Dept a bit of a rollicking (I saw the letter) when they closed the road outside our house for 6 weeks

and Theresa lives in a cul de sac in Woodley just down the road

My constituency MP is the former Secretary Of State For Wales - not least because there are so few Conservative contenders in Wales for the role. I recognise his mug from the telly and the local supermarket. I doubt that I would ever say more to him than hello. I certainly would not vote for him.

I have no idea who is the current mayor of the town where I live. One former mayor is the mother of some of my school contemporaries. I wouldn't wish the job on my worst enemy.

Re the OP - is there a benefit to recognising our constituency MP? And you only have a Mayor if you live in a City, don’t you? The nearest Mayor to me is 60 miles away, so is utterly irrelevant. They’re all beaurocrats who do paper work, aren’t they?

I'm sure I've seen pix of Mr Hancock (not Tony) our MP. Typical suit-wearing Tory. Don't think I'd recognise him in the street though unless he was wearing a blue rosette and accompanied by loads of party yes-men.
Matt Hancock?   I cant stand him.  such a slimey c***
That's the way he comes across in his written propaganda (whether he writes it or someone else writes it for him I don't know), but I've not met him.

Are you from round here, is that how you know him?

EDIT: Pleez be aware that your insults can be read by non-forum members; even if you think they are justified, others might not.

    Incorrect.

Towns have a mayor, selected from elected local councillors by other elected local councillors.

In the UK, only in metropolitan authority districts do the general public get to vote for who will become mayor.

A lot of ppl on here seem to have Tory MPs  Hmm.
I don't think I've ever voted for the Tory MP who (notionally at any rate) represents or has represented the place I live(d) in. Not that it makes much difference. This (and many other places I have lived) have been very safe Tory seats.

A Mayor's job would seem to be ceremonial. They have minions to do their paperwork.

why is knowing one's Lord Mayor (or town mayor) a barometer of being politically aware?   it's just a ceremonial thing, and not democratically elected by the public.

most people don't even have a Lord Mayor.

I know many MPs who are not my MP.  I know Matt Hancock cos he is often on TV/media, sometimes put on as a spokesman for the Tory party.  He's not on TV as often as he was a couple of years ago, though - nor is Grant Shapps (is that his name?), either.  I can't talk of his written material, but to hear and see him, well....

I strongly dislike him.  I find him loathsome. I don't care who reads what I write about him.  If he wants to be a frontline politician, he has to tolerate being criticised.

EDIT:  why isn't this thread in the politics section?

If invisible and anonymous mp's are your thing look no further than theresa villiers tory mp when she was sec of state for n.ireland. completely and utterly useless and i wouldnt be surprised if she put her day in hiding in the toilets.

When it comes to mayors , n.ireland is a law unto itself that those who dont live there have no clue whatsoever about. Theresa May is now experiencing the tip of the iceberg of what a mistake she has made in being in cahoots with the DUP.

I probably would since he's the only other white man in Thornton Heath who's not a crackhead.
Steve Reed MP, the 'See You Next Tuesday' even wrote me back and was useless (just blaming the Tories) making me wish to contact government starting along the lines of
'I contacted my MP, Steve Reed MP about .... and was useless.'

I'm neighbours with the councillor of a near by ward, who's of the same party as Steve Reed MP (Labour) but I only vote for him because he's my neighbour and he knows my name and we do say hi and all of that. He lives over the road, I have a lot of neighbours, all good here, but one's a councillor who I vote for... Even has his home address on the ballot when I vote for him too so that makes things easier for me.
