You can’t get in trouble for ageing an S type body and selling it. 

Not unless you’ve slapped a Fender decal on it and are selling it as a Fender

'slapped a decal on it' - that does appear to be the case here - I checked that - early stages when he has all the parts laid out you can clearly see no logo - yet logo on the completed example

Oh I don’t know tbh. I point blank refuse to add a fender decal to my work for obvious reasons. However, I can’t control what the buyer does after he/she receives it

imo best relics are cruz masterbuilt teles, id still have the strat in the video in a heartbeat

The Custom Shop guys do a good relic with the time allocated but guys like Carson Hess produce a work of art....

@lonestar can I ask a numpty question please. So he covers the Body in masking tape and presumably copies a photo by eye of the relic pattern. Then he cuts around said tape with a scalpel before removing the paint by scratching it off. Why not use nitromors or similar stripper to make life easy? Seems very labour intensive to me.

Nitromors wouldn't give the right look, the lacquer would be washed off rather than chipped off as it is in a real wear situation

Basically for the reason @SteveRobinson said. The edge of the worn area would be smooth as though it had been rubbed rather than chipped.

@SteveRobinson @lonestar thanks chaps. Just mildly curious. For 'authentic' replicas I am assuming you would want a balance of chips,  scratches and smooth areas to copy the wear and damage done over time, plus a degree of stains, and corrosion on metal parts?

Yes but tbh 90% of my stuff is done to the brief set out by the customer. I’m heading down the less is more route now anyway. The heavy heavy stuff divides opinion quite drastically.
