New Single Cut

What's Hot
As Billy Gibbons said "just when you thought you'd bought everything, someone comes along with something new".

I love Single Cuts, especially Les Pauls. Just had an e-mail from Lowden, who are now going to produce a Single Cut Solid Body with two Lollar Imperial Humbuckers - the Lowden GL-10. It looks and sounds rather tasty, though the advertising material has no price for the Guitar.

Saw this on my Facebook feed.

An odd development for Lowden in my view - can’t really think of any acoustic manufacturer which has successfully diversified into electrics. It reminds me of the Taylor solid bodies which were introduced a few years ago. Very nice in a ‘woody’ sort of way - but hard to know who they’re meant to appeal to....

“From £2995” according to some early media reports.

Agree with @richardhomer about the slight oddity of the decision. Didn’t work for Taylor all that well (although they persist with the semihollow T3 and the hybrid T5z) and PRS and Fender have had the inverse problem.

Lowden seem to be on a serious growth trajectory at the moment though so I guess they figure they can sell them...

Headstock looks dull - can’t tell how good it sounds as saturated with reverb! I’d wait for a couple of years when dealers can’t sell the stock (I remember the Larivee being sold for £700!!).

Collings seemed to do well with their transition, but there are limited examples!

Oh cool, I’ll keep an eye on this. They’re based in Downpatrick I think. Nice part of the world

I'm sure Gibson tried to pull a fast one like this a few years back - I'll never understand why any guitar maker would try :-/

I'm sure they're a lot easier for him to build than acoustics.

  • Electrics are lot easier, and much less time consuming to make than Acoustics.

The Headstock looks the standard Lowden shape.

I'd certainly be interested in trying one out.

Ovation had the VXT hybrid that for some reason never took off but I thought was a damn fine guitar.
If this is built well (am sure it is) someone will buy it I guess

According to their web site they've built it in response to customer requests. Lowden is a small company. I believe they only build 20-30 guitars a month. If they sell one of these a month that'll probably be fine.
One day I'm going to make a guitar out of butter to experience just how well it actually plays.

Where are the manufacturers finding all these empty industrial units for their demos Savills must have a secondary income renting these out to them.

Not for me in looks, do like a bit of Ariel though.
