Mrs Flying Pie recently surprised me by uttering the words "why don't you get yourself another guitar?"
So I'll be popping into a local guitar shop for some inspiration with a view to something second hand in the £600ish bracket. But Im a bit lost for ideas.
I have two Teles for my electric needs and had adjusted to that being my lot. I have a 2009 Fender USA Std for my single coil needs and a Michael Kelly 1955 with an Iron Gear Rolling Mill overwound bridge humbucker which is great for more raucous stuff. I've pretty much played 25.5 scale for more than 20 years but also play ukulele so can adjust to shorter scales.
I play rock/pop covers these days and dabble in pre-millenium metal/punk/alt for home recording.
Any suggestions for styles/models to shortlist? I've not ruled anything out other than Flying Vs as I've owned one before and didn't get on with it

Do you not play acoustic?
Yes... Gretsch I think is a cool choice at that price

A P90 SG or LPG is tempting. As is a thinline P90 Tele.
And a Baritone is tempting but I know in wouldn't play it enough.

£600 is a bit of an inbetween bracket for gretsches and semis in my experience, the electromatics and are nice but I wouldn't put them up against a US tele and I don't find them to be too versatile either. Similar kind of thing with Les Pauls too, it's over a grand for a standard and as good as the epiphones and lower end Gibson models are, I again don't think they really compare with Fender for the money. A PRS SE would be a shout if you can get into them, very well built for the price and they do a P90 model too but not everyone's cup of tea.
You can also get some really nice top end Epis for about that price..

They have method in such madness
Cheers but I don't own a Strat. Used to but prefer Teles. And I have a couple of acoustics but seldom play them

Theres a great roafworn JM @BintyTwanger77 is selling in the classifieds here that’s bang on your budget. All this stuff is utterly subjective of course, but if I didn’t have a JM and had £600 to blow on the next gratuitous purchase, I’d take a good long look at that one.
Good luck with the hunt. Agonising decisions, but good ones
