Theres a great roafworn JM @BintyTwanger77  is selling in the classifieds here that’s bang on your budget. All this stuff is utterly subjective of course, but if I didn’t have a JM and had £600 to blow on the next gratuitous purchase, I’d take a good long look at that one.

Good luck with the hunt. Agonising decisions, but good ones :)

Thanks for the promo, mate. Still available at £650, but on the verge of trying Gumtree and/or the dreaded eB*y.

£600? I'd go for a means to record, or a better amp (if applicable) or an European break.... Italy perhaps?
I've got the means to record. My amp is probably better to keep than sell as Blackstar HT50s don't fetch much second hand and sound okay for what I play. I've tried a few other amps in stores but I think I'm so used to that amp being part of my sound that I keep coming beck to it. But that's good food for thought. Maybe I could look for a Series one head. Or a different cab.

Little people and lack of childcare means Italy isn't the best option sadly

I would get something completely different - a semi-acoustic, if you want another electric guitar. Different pickups and body shapes still sound and respond like electric guitars, whereas a semi will make you play quite differently and open up a whole new range of sounds.

I would probably try something completely hollow, like the ‘James Bay’ Epiphone Century or a Casino.

Left-field .. Line 6 Variax ... guitar is pretty good with normal pickups plus loads of models and tones. Great for recording and gigs.

Mrs Flying Pie recently surprised me by uttering the words "why don't you get yourself another guitar?"

I think you'll find that what she actually said was DON'T get yourself another guitar, we need curtains, a new carpet and I need a new car" ...but your man hearing kicked in!  =) :) :3
I started out with nothing..... but I've still got most of it left (Seasick Steve)

The correct answer is, of course, a Jazzmaster. More versatility than a Swis Army Knife
Cab you get boy scouts out of horses' hooves with a Jazzmaster?

If you want the same scale length as a Tele, but still desire something different, then I (tentatively) suggest an Epiphone Nighthawk. It might/might not float your boat, yet it might challenge you in a way that another Fender won't.

If you like the idea of a single cutaway, 25.5" scale and a semi, there's also the Epiphone Blueshawk with P90s, which is well within your budget.

Otherwise, I throw this into the mix - a new Shergold Masquerader - for spot on your budget - available from Mansons:

Cheers. That's good to know. I'm aware that Hagstrom also do 25.5 scale LP and hollow body guitars.

I was in a local guitar shop the other day and ended up playing a Squier Jazzmaster deluxe which was surprisingly nice. The finish was easily on par with MIM. I got the feeling that with a few upgrades it could be a great guitar.
