It's critically important how you pack the guitar to minimise the risk of a headstock break.

This is how to do it: https://www.lespaulforum.com/dano/packing.html

Bubble wrap, bubble wrap and then some more bubble wrap :-)

i have sent a few over the year via courier and always feel sorry for whoever is unwrapping them at the other end, Guitar bubble wrapped, gig bag or case bubble wrapped then boxed. More bubble wrap on the box so there is no movement of the guitar in the box as well, when it shakes it shouldnt move at all.

    Bubble wrap is your friend

Top tips, cheers fellas. So once packed up (hardcase into a cardboard box) how much you expect to pay for a courier so the guitar is fully insured?

I thought Transglobal were the better choice now as their insurance is cheaper than Interparcel?

Insurance cost is a percentage of the insured value of the guitar.

Insurance provided by a shipping company is a con anyway.

I've only claimed once but Interparcel were fine to pay out £130 towards a repair based on a paper quote.

Just went through the quote process with Interparcel/UPS and for the guitar to be fully insured to the value of £500 and it was £45. For a little less Hermes will cover repairs for up to the value of £100 and full value of the guitar should the parcel go missing.

But no doubt, like Parcel Farce, they will take the money for the insurance without informing you of this...

Just arranged UPS via Transglobal something like £27 including £400 insurance. I bubble wrapped everything then packed out the box with old cushions.

...and to be fair to UPS, the moment you enter 'guitar' in the contents a box pops up saying max £100 for damage, £1000 for loss.
    It's a gamble for sure.

Forget the insurance, pack for a nuclear holocaust and pay the extra for the shipping

No company is better than another
    The answer was never 42 - it's 1/137 (..ish)

This is 100% the approach I take, and I agree re: companies.

If you do UPS via ParcelBroker there's specific instructions about how to pack so the instrument is insured for damage as well as loss.  Put it in a hard case inside a cardboard box basically.  So it is possible to get a >£1000 instrument fully insured for shipping.

And still, they refused to pay out more than £100 when they broke the neck of a vintage Rickenbacker belonging to a friend of mine which was in a Rickenbacker moulded hard case, bubble wrapped and in a strong cardboard box. The case was cracked too - not surprising given the boot prints all over the box.
