    Because they can’t get girlfriends.

Not that I would condone it but giving things genders is derived from languages that use genders. Cars are "she" because "la voiture" is feminine in French. As "la guitarra" is feminine in Spanish, those that say "she" are technically correct.

If somewhat lacking in good taste.

Well, to compare Guitars and women:

    1) Both have complicated heads.
    2) Both have necks.
    3) Both usually have G-strings.
    4) Both usually have curvy bodies.
    5) Women, acoustic and some electric guitars have holes in the front..

But we don't speak Spanish, and English is non-gendered, so they're wrong and weird and probably perverts.

Quite a good theory except that ships and boats are often called "She" and they are both masculine in French.  ;)

We’re always anthropomorphising things in our house.

Only the other day, Doris the Dishwasher got right mardy and refused to take any dirty dishes, the cow.

I told Mrs B this when she asked me why I hadn’t loaded Doris up. She went and had a right strop at her afterwards..

Gas Station guitars is a great example of this. Click the link below and prepare to be horrified. One of the worst offenders I’ve seen!

"That rarest of things, a true unmolested vintage Les Paul all original and in superb condition."

I was just grateful that, despite referring to the guitar as "she" throughout the ad, they stopped short of saying "she is unmolested"....

I don’t call my guitars she and I don’t name them. But strangely, I have one called Betty and one called Wilf. I blame @miserneil ; :)

    Who would want sloppy seconds?

The solution is obvious. If you do buy from a vendor of that persuasion, be sure to thoroughly clean all of the guitar's cavities.
