SHO at the end of the chain, seems to bring out the best in both the pedals before it and the amp after it

If a booster is always on, is it still considered boosting?
Yes, because it's boosting the signal which hits the front end of your amp.

I run my LP DC Jr with a KoKKo Booster into the mixed drive of my Session Rockette 30 to get the most enormous erection delivering tones available to Man.

You don't need to spend mega £$ to get a tone-on.

I had an RC Booster on full-time for years. Then I turned it off and turned the amps up and was happier for it.

I found the EP Booster just added mud.

The Diamond Comp is a good shout, makes every pedal after it sound better.

But the real revelation is the Simble Pre-driver which beats the lot for me, a magic combination of extra beef, sparkle and smidge of compression. Heavenly into a Princeton

This thread reminds me that I really should get my old Dod Bifet pre-amp out of its box and play around with it again.  That's ones always on because it doesn't even have a footswitches on it.
I have one of these, it's a great pedal when it's on - the bypass tone sounds a bit cloudy though.

Not so much of a problem when you CAN'T turn it off

    or
    Simble Pre Driver (awesome)
    or
    Durham Sex Drive.

Current setup is Simble Pre Driver after tuner, and Durham Sex Drive after OD’s.  Both ALWAYS on.

  • I've recently borrowed and OD3 from my mate and I can't turn it off. I'm doing that Andy Timmons thing of getting my clean tone from an OD pedal and I'm very happy with it. I'm just back from playing a wedding and my strat running through the OD3 with the guitar volume set as needed per song, then kicking in a TC Dark Matter for big solos, is the best sound I've had in a long time.
