I'm not certain that my cardiac situation is compatible with a class 1 mind...  I'm only going on what I can decipher from the CAA site.  I'd need to check with an A.M.E.  In any case, all of this is academic if I still fail the new colour vision test.

Don't you frequent a pilots forum?

Can anyone there point you in the direction of the new test to see how you'd do without spending lots of money/time?

Oh how I would love to see your faces if one day you are on a plane, just settling in, putting your seatbelts on and over the tannoy comes "Good Morning, this is your Captain speaking.  We're almost ready to depart.  Our new First Officer Emperor Fabulous will be flying you down to Corfu this morning....."

Already in hand mate.  £150 for the new eye test at City University.  I've just got to book the appointment.

Actually, I got banned from the pilot forum.  =)

OK, just if you do get a job, let us know which airline you're with.

Not for any reason, just to congratulate you. Honestly.  Really.

If XLR8 was still here I could pester him.  He was (is) a 747-400 pilot for Virgin.

I've got a lot of enjoyment from this thread. So in gratitude here's my advice

Get a single prop licence and buy a Cessna 172. Fly it a lot. Done.

so, the thought occurs to me you don't need no sort of licence to fly a drone. Could you not get, like, a load of drones and connect them all to some sort of harness and just go flying like that?

I'm not locked in here with you, you are locked in here with me.

No.  It's the machine I want.  The big powerful jet that will take me high above the clouds.  The bazillion switches and dials - I love the complexity and I love the incredible views.  To see the planet from that vantage point every day must be awesome - in the real sense of the word.  I don't care if it's passengers going to Benidorm or 60 tons of celery bound for Iran.  What's behind me doesn't matter, apart from the aircraft itself.  I don't want 'respect' or 'status', I don't care about the salary, I'm not interested in the uniform or the flight attendants.  I just want the immense machine and the unique vista of the planet.

well, if it's the machine, the view and you're not that concerned about what's behind you, how about trolley dolly?

Do you get to operate complex machinery or look out of the big window at the front as a trolley dolly ?
Are you isolated from the farting rabble in the back ?

Surely the right answer here is get yourself all trained and legit flying smaller planes. Will that take too long? Then after a year or so of that is it easier to move up? Plus by that point you’d have spent less and have an idea how far you’re realistically going to get?
And when you do make it I’ve always wanted a private jet to take me on holiday, so book me in with a fretboard discount
Or just go for it. You can’t take all that cash with you whenever you meet your maker - or whichever plane you meet him in :)
