    The CS Custom Deluxe changed quite a bit over the few years they were in the catalogue - I've got a 2010 (second year) one which has been my main guitar from new - probably an odd combination of old and new for most, mine has the Nitro finish, thick 60's neck, but with 22 frets and 2-point trem. It's a great Strat and I've since put in a Wudtone conversation to 6 screw trem. Don't write them all off is what I is saying.

    Me too, I have a 2010 sonic blue (now yellowed to surf green) Custom Deluxe. That is a great guitar. No maple cap, 65C profile neck (fatter than the regular custom shop “mid sixties” profile), alder body, nitro and some great tones.

    Later custom deluxes went with a maple cap, ash body and poly finish...which was like the one I sold for £1450! A different beast to my 2010.

    @guitars4you Thanks!  Thought so.

    This is the one: http://doctorpaul.wixsite.com/guitars/copy-of-tony

    Also this CS, which appeals more:

    Of course, down to cash adjustments...

    You wouldn't lose money on a US G&L S500 at £850, although it's possible to find one as low as £650, but they can indeed be heavy and that should be your only concern - Prices are rising slightly now that they're becoming rarer (import/CITES etc)

    I've had 7 G&Ls to date, including an early Indonesian Tribute Model and they've all been outstanding (Yamaha quality).

    My personal favorite is the George Fullerton Signature Model and I wouldn't be afraid of the 3-bolt neck, as it's solid as a rock and they only changed it due to the negative association with 70s Fenders.

    Far, far better than AVRIs...

    And the bridge stability at 04.50 here...

    P.S. Doctor Paul has quite a rare one there with the mahogany body and I've read lots of good feedback regarding him and his collection (he used to own my Charvel Star).
