MIDI passthrough box

BowksBowks Frets: 414
I'm building a new pedalboard and finally dragging myself into the 80s as there will be some MIDI in use! What I am looking for is a MIDI passthrough box, similar to the Bright Onion patchboxes, that will present MIDI at the side of the board so I can connect up to my amp.

Does anyone know of a cheap simple solution?

    Are you trying to control your amp settings by midi, or just switch channels?

    Custompedalboards have a patchbay with a MIDI socket.

    I bet Bright Onion would make you one too if you asked nicely.

    It would be sensible to have a MIDI thru box tucked away under the board too- not all MIDI pedals do MIDI thru reliably.

    Kenton midi thru

    Seconded - this is what I have too, and allows for 1 MIDI in and 5 MIDI out's

    I don't think this is quite what the OP wants- he's on about sending MIDI from his pedalboard to his amp, and needs somewhere to conveniently connect the cable.

    A MIDI Thru will probably be necessary to control multiple pedals on the board, but if you mount it at the edge of your board to make it easier to connect to the amp, you end up with all the other MIDI outs hanging out the side of the board too...

    It's just for channel switching. MusicomLab switcher -> Eventide H9 -> Marshall 6100 for channel switching.

    I've emailed Bright Onion to see what he can rustle up.

    Well, if the units have a MIDI Thru port, then you can daisy-chain them.

    A MIDI Thru box (or splitter) will allow a single controller to be connected to several modules.

    one input => many outputs

    I've got one of these 3-way ones which connects a set of PK-5A pedals to a Minitaur, a Roland JV-1010, and a Peavey Spectrum (on MIDI channels 1, 2, and 3 respectively).

    http://www.philrees.co.uk/products/thruunit.htm

    The opposite is a MIDI Merge box, which takes several controllers as input and pushes them down a single output.

    many inputs => one output

    There are some boxes which combine the functionality, including some which have two inputs which can be switched to either of four outputs.

    I've you're prepared to spend lots, there are 19" rack units with lots of ins & outs...

    H9 is reported to be unreliable at sending MIDI thru (basically, it can send its own MIDI messages, but won't pass on messages it receives at its MIDI in port through the MIDI out), so a MIDI thru box will be needed to split the signal from the switcher/controller to route separately to the H9 and the amp.

    Cheers Bob...that's saved me a few quid and many hours of swearing at electronic boxes!

    I think I've probably *cost* you a few quid for a MIDI thru box...

    My H9 always handled midi Thru with absolutely no issue whatsoever

    Whereas I'm just repeating things I read on the internet :)

    I'd be inclined to listen to Gav on this one.
