    How about transparent red?
You could be onto something.  A nice cherry red lacquer on the body solves both issues.

Could you not whip up a “clear daphne blue”...
Keep the surf vibe and show the grain!.. that’d look the nuts!

Maybe, but blue will look too modern if I get it wrong. Trans red can go through  many shades without looking wrong for a vintage styled instrument.  Think of it as a 60’s style fender with a 60’s style Gibson finish and trans red starts to make sense

I quite like that as an idea.  Might be nice as a dark wood inlay on this... hmm, something to think about

Nah.  I need to take it apart again and get it ready for spraying, but I have just been playing it instead.

I finally took this apart, recarved the neck a bit now it’s been stable a while

and I decided on the finish which will be a variation of CAR based on the finish ingredients I already have here.

So bronze powder gold oversprayed with a cherry red.  Likely more Candy Cherry than Candy Apple.... although it could all end up a bit browner.  We will see.

It will I’ll have a matching headstock, but neck and fretboard will be left natural

im tempted to do aluminium plates, but will decide on that later

What do you think of the plate idea, rough as it is?

    Certainly needs a plate.

I like the S curve across the pickups but I think I would either miss the metal control plate altogether or take the completely opposite approach and take the plate all the way to the end radius of the metal control plate into a sort of stretched, stylised ying-yang

You say that like it's a bad thing :)

I think the one you've mocked up fits very well

Im in two minds about the plate Wez I think it looks great with and without, a bit different to the norm without and trad Duo with, either way its Pukka...tough call....I think if it were mine I go without as I really like the clean simple lines of it...
