There's always the total lazy bastard solution. I have totally contemplated it.

Hands up if anyone gets excited at the prospect of getting their mower out??
I cut my grass once this year, when the OP was made back in June, then nothing until yesterday. Blame the glorious summer which made our gardens brown and crunchy, followed by a few weekends away before the kids went back. The next time I cut it was yesterday - grass a bit long and floppy and other bits needed doing on the borders. But it was a joy to sit with a cup of tea afterwards, admiring my handiwork and listening to the last few minutes of Everton getting battered by West Ham at home. :)

I last mowed mine back when it was hot and dry.  I've been putting it off because the grass has been constantly wet.  Trouble is that it's now two feet tall - and still wet.
Lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on mine.
