Don't tell everyone how good they are the price has gone up enough already! ;)

I have a CV tele, and it stopped me looking at other tele's!

I don’t own a Baja, but the other guitarist in my band has one and it is a great guitar.  If it were me, I’d pay for a nitro refin, which would take it to the next level - reduce weight and increase resonance.

I tried a few of these and really wanted to like them, but the necks were really thin and setups not great.  Could have dealt with the latter but I need a reasonable chunk on a tele neck, pity they don’t do a fat neck version.

Probably the best mix is a CV body and Baja neck.i did have one CVC with a Baja neck .It was good to go but sadly had to go .iIsold  it in bits as usual.the CVC body was hefty again  but thats more of a health issue with me than criticism.

I bought a Baja recently. Didn't think much of the sound, which was a good thing as I bought it to part out and keep the neck. The neck is lovely though.

When the Baja came out it was extraordinary value for money, and it gained a reputation as an amazing guitar.

Then they doubled the price and the reputation stuck, even though they were mostly heavy, a little clunky feeling and not very lively compared to a great Tele.

They're ok, but in a shootout of eight different Fender and Squier Teles  I did when shopping for a mate it was well beaten by a couple of the Squiers and the US Vintage Reissue, though it was way better sounding than the US Std to be fair.

The US Std has always sounded crap with the stock pickups and whatever gimmicky tone control they put in it at the time. If you fit proper vintage-style pickups and electronics they sound great. I’ve done several of them for customers and owned one myself, and they all turned out great.

I'm sure removing the finish would help.  Not that you should have to, but if you liked the neck profile (something where many other models fall down for me) removing half a pound of finish should make an okay guitar very good.

    Good example here:-

But I agree on the reputation/price thing, new the model has drifted away from being nearly as appealing as it did.

@robgilmo do you find the tele sounds different (clearer) with the volume full up? I recently bought a 60’s baja tele and found the pickups plenty bright enough in thrmselves, however the volume control was also rolling off treble which could make things sound muddy at lower volumes. I’ve compared this directly to another tele with posh upgraded pickups and they’re certainly just as bright with volume and tone full up.
I solved this by fitting one of these to the volume control - makes no difference with the volume full up, but stops it sounding muddy with the volume backed off. If you drop the volume below half and then bring the level back up using a boost pedal or amp volume etc, you do get a noticeably thinner/brighter sound which can be quite useful. It’s a bit fiddly to install and if you’re not confident with soldering then it’s best left to a guitar tech, but definitely worth doing.

You could buy a decent capacitor and resistor for a lot less than £2.99.

If you go on Bitsbox you can buy a WIMA polypropylene capacitor, plus a 130kOhm resistor for a grand total of 29p.

As the current owner of that very guitar, I can testify that it is very nice indeed :)
