He makes it sound better than when Bernie plays it!

I wish he'd stop checking the volume control though, it's on 10 and didn't change in the 3 seconds since you last checked it

Some tastey playing.  I suppose the guitar is 'quite' nice  ;)

That knob twiddling is annoying. Why is he doing that? ARRGH
There’s one point where he’s on the bridge pick-up and is adjusting both volumes....

His playing sounds very like Joey Landreth. He does the shaking the whole guitar to get vibrato thing as well.

I love how the pickguard doesn't fit properly, the pickup rings are all over the place, yet people obsess over the accuracy of the plastics on the reissues, The Les Paul Forum would be in meltdown blaming Henry for poor quality control if they fitted them like on Bernie's guitar!

This lad is a tasteful player and gets great tone in his videos.

I think he's playing with his knob too much.

I very much doubt the pickup rings or scratchplate left the factory like that. Looks more like warping and shrinking of plastic parts with age.

Give it back to Bernie , he plays better because he doesn't have his watch swinging around .

Pretty sure I read that the neck ring is a DiMarzio replacement as the original broke way back when.

  • Who cares how much he adjusts his volume? It's because he's an excellent player who has control over his guitar and dynamics. That's like criticising a formula one driver for adjusting the steering wheel when they're not cornering.

Tough crowd here. I have no problem with someone riding the volume, I noticed he turned it up and down...

Nice playing - a hint of blues but not the usual dreadful pentatonic shred wankery. Nice space between the notes, letting them breathe. Few players do that... and those that think they do then ruin it with an overblown run up or down the blues scale a la Joe B.

    Nice.

I really like his playing and Youtube channel generally - fluid feel and a lot more soulful than the usual video fodder.

Couldn't care a less about his watch or his volume control tweaking - sounds better than the vast majority of us forum dwellers I reckon.

Chris is also a really nice, normal guy which makes it twice as hard to accept how good a player he is :-)

  • If we were listening instead of watching we would be raving about his playing. It's stunning as far as i'm concerned.

I have heard that guitar being played by Bernie, in his own style, so many times that to hear the opening bars played by Chris lets me know it really IS a great guitar!

It sounds wonderful with those open strings ringing and chiming so musically and Chris does makes it sing.
    Thanks for sharing.

Agree with all the comments, both those saying that the playing is really good and that the knob touching is annoying lol. I wonder if I'd even have noticed it if I didn't read this thread first. Might be some kind of OCD.
