Lot of folks avoid slurrying a stained surface, but - as long as you don't overdo it - I find it works very well

I cheated a bit - I used 1200 grit paper and a very light touch. Not going to win any gloss awards but it smoothed and added sheen nicely

Well, that would have been a B at O level, but by modern GCSE standards that's A*, (or 9 now). 
It's looking really good. Reminds me I need a guitar with a bit of grain showing. But not a bass, no, heaven forbid!

Managed to get chance to finish this off tonight - stuck a Dimarzio P in I had in the parts drawer and some electronics I also had spare. All up a proper cheapo Partscaster and now does the P thing really well - dirty, punchy, thumpy and sits nicely in the mix!
