  • Get a Fractal AX8 or a Kemper. I now have both and haven't wanted any guitars or amps in ages....

Paying for new pickups or a setup can help avoid the urge to buy a whole new instrument sometimes

or get a Chapman guitar for a bit of controversy. Even though they are actually really great guitars :)
Better warn the mods if I do, the NGD thread would break the forum ;)

The ones I played in Andertons were superb.

I do rather like the look of these though...

    Fretless bass
That’s a really really good call. Something familiar and yet totally different than can be had new and perfectly fabulous for around the £200 mark if you don’t want to risk a lot.

My little Ibanez is definitely cheap but feels fabulous and is a total joy to noodle on. I’d happily gig it if the need arose too.
That logic is the reason I recently bought a bass, noodling on it a lot more than guitar at the minute.

It's quite relaxing, sort of mellow.
We should have a bass meetup and compare notes!
I have a feeling your collection thoroughly trumps my little Ibanez!
Maybe, but you can try a load and we can swap notes on playing technique and amps etc..
Sounds good to me, have it in my head to make a "bass debut" at one of the upcoming jams :)

Don’t know what your team consists of, but those Little Sister guitars get me burping every time I look at them :-)
Realised mine's still up for sale in the classifieds; albeit that I'm not sure I actually want to sell it :confounded:

4 LP style cheapies? Flog 2 or 3 buy and buy a better LP to join your current favourite.

  • I'm sort of (despite having a new Bass) suffering from a bit of GAS at the minute, as well as my usual post-jam success crisis of confidence.

I sometimes fix this with a new guitar, however, I've got a bit of a quandary..

I literally have no idea what to buy!

    However...

    - I already own four LP style guitars, though none even close to as pricey as that one

    - I'd be almost scared to play it, it would represent a huge investment for me and last time I took out a guitar with a nice flashy finish (my PRS SE "Bloody Mary") I scratched the bugger, so I'd not take it to jams etc.

    - I'd almost certainly end up selling all the other LP style guitars I have, and I've not had any luck selling gear to-date.

So then I look at cheaper guitars to "add to the fleet"

    like...

Now those seem really cool and different, but after initial GAS satisfaction wore off, would I be ultimately disappointed, and am I ultimately just trying to avoid the relisation that Strats don't do much for me personally by looking at wacky ones?

Any thoughts?  Anyone else have this particular first-world problem?

Don't even get me started on amps, the Katana 50 is everything I need, but then I see things like the new AC30 and that H&K Andertons were selling off...
Have you thought about getting into modular synths ? Thats a never ending GAS rabbit hole

Ed, if you need to shift the LTD you know you can bring it back and I'll work something out for you.

Personally I think you're an LP/PRS guy more than anything, you seem to suit them BUT that LTD is an awesome guitar once it's been set up properly so don't discount it just yet.

If the 'Metal' thing isn't you though, then yeah mahybe best to move on and look at a more 'Classic' LP style.

    stop the gas
    1. Stop visiting the forum
    2. Play your guitars, ideally stick to one and set yourself a target of learning something.
    3. Join a band
    4. Make music
    5. Stop visiting the forum
    6. Debatable but I would suggest selling all 4 Les Pauls and putting the money into one good one.
    7. Once you have scratched an instrument it is christened. Stop worrying and get to playing. A scratch is no reason to stop taking a guitar out.
    8. stop visiting the forum,
    9. Dont ask a bunch of cretins with GAS issues of their own what you should buy next :-D
The Bigsby was the first successful design of what is now called a whammy bar or tremolo arm, although vibrato is the technically correct term for the musical effect it produces. In standard usage, tremolo is a rapid fluctuation of the volume of a note, while vibrato is a fluctuation in pitch. The origin of this nonstandard usage of the term by electric guitarists is attributed to Leo Fender, who also used the term “vibrato” to refer to what is really a tremolo effect.

I'm still figuring out what is me to be honest!

Would consider giving you first refusal on the LTD if I ever cleared it out a matter of honour ;)

Whatever you need to do mate I'll do whatever I can to help.

You don't have to play Metal on that LTD (EC401 for reference), it's just a rock solid 24 Fret LP.
Take some time and see what screams at you, then buy or keep that one.
Cost isn't always the most important factor.

  • My current GAS is a bit schizophrenic in that I’m torn between wanting totallycontrasting styles of guitar, one hand an offset, Jaguar probably, for surf/grunge/shoegaze. But also want a modern style shredder for rock/metal, such as a Ibanez AZ. I know your answer will be buy both!

I guess it comes down to how much you want to spend.

Cheaper guitars have helped me a lot in understanding what I do and don't like.

I'm not a subtle guitarist, partly due to lack of skill and partly because I just like to hit the thing and make noise, so a subtle nuance in playing is a bit lost on me, all about the rocking out...

So, I don't really like strats... <ducks and runs> but that may change with time!

Your right about using cheaper guitars- the Vintage V100 I bought earlier this year is satisfying my need for a Gibson style for now. I think a Squier VM Jag might be a good idea to see if it’s for me. I’m covered on the Strat front. There are so many other types of guitars I’ve yet to try though (teles, 335, gretches) I have a lot of room for exploring

That part I've enjoyed very much, I often find myself thinking how would I like an X or an X...

I'd quite like an Epi Casino with P90s, but the Epi bashing on here even gets to me sometimes.

Don’t let that put you off trying a few. I’m sure there are plenty of dainty strats out there but mine loves to be thrashed and played hard.

In fact I’m probably happier thrashing that about than I would be with most Gibson style guitars because it’s just a roughly painted old plank.
