Awesome, even down to the clay markers!
Please keep sharing - I'd love to do this one day. Do you mind sharing where you sourced the wood from?

  • Lovely work. Do you do commissions or purely for yourself? I ask as coincidently I'm after a strat neck with rosewood and clay dots.

This time I think I got the wood from http://www.exotichardwoodsukltd.com/ I don't always remember as I tend to get it some time in advance of making a guitar

I'm strictly amateur, I don't consider my guitars to be selling quality! There are others here who make guitars to a higher standard.

Body sprayed Sonic blue and aged

    Shielding done

Start of neck carve. Usually a combination of worrying and very satisfying. Terrible pic unfortunately!

2 way. I think it was from Warman, bought a couple rather a long time ago so the memory is a bit hazy. I have certainly had at least one from Warman in the past.

planning placement of trem screw holes.

Mock up of guitar so far.

plastic and metal parts aged a bit. Doesn't show that well in this pic.

Love the pickguard, are you able to divulge your ageing secrets?

When this said 'building' a strat I didn't realise you were creating from scratch!

No secrets with me. I read somewhere that you can get an interesting aged look on a pickguard by spraying it with tinted nitro varnish. I did that then rubbed it all over with fine wire wool, wearing some bits back more than others. Added some mock rust wear around screw holes with some enamel paint.

This is really good @axisus ! I wish I had the confidence to have a crack at something like this. I've always fancied making a LP Junior but neck building worries me!

OK so the whole thing is together and playable! It still needs rather a lot of sorting to get playability up - nut slots, some fret levelling, truss rod adjustment etc. but basically I am loving it already. New no 1!
