The 'overdriving a console' type of sound.

You can also cascade multiple channels on a console into one another (ch1 into ch2, into ch3 etc) to get it really hot and crunchy.
Then attenuate into a tape machine or DAW.

You can try one of the shitist pedals I've owned for that. The jhs colourbox. I hate the overdriven console sound. The colorbox does it.

The Mid Fi Demo Tape Fuzz is supposed to do that overloaded portastudio type thing. I keep meaning to build one for myself, as I remember hearing a demo that I liked.

Alternatively, the Crowther Prunes & Custard is a strange beast. I built a clone of one for a friend, and he loves it. Lots of weird, harmonic distortion going on in there. It can get quite ring mod-esque at times. Certainly not your standard distortion!
My wife asked me to stop singing Wonderwall.
    I said maybe.....

The Demo Tape Fuzz is a great fuzz but it doesn't sound as "blown out" as I was expecting

Death By Audio Fuzz War. Currently the only use I can really find for it is as a special effect super nasty nasal fuzz. It did sound good boosting my Laney for a heavy stoner tone, though haven't enjoyed it so much into a Marshall other than for the really horrid stuff.

Any excuse to post the best pedal demo ever

  • The Dr.Rainger Freakenstein mini with the ‘Igor’ expression pedal is a great, unique, tweakable pedal.
