  • I've been trying to remember the name of that dwarf porn star that kept on getting mentioned a few years back.  I still can't.

    But anyway, her.

Ms Goldtop commissioned a huge bookcase, made of oak. It's about 5m wide 2.5m tall and 0.5mm deep.
You have some really odd shaped books ;)

    Bridget the midget?

Anyway small objects I like the look of would be my Tissot Visodate. I hadn’t worn a watch for 20 years until recently. The visodate is my first proper watch and although I had double the budget I couldn’t find a nicer looking classic dress watch. The exhibition case back is nice - I occasionally take a look at the movement.

I'm quite fascinated by old enamel pins and badges.  There are loads of them on eBay, quite often from sporting events or obscure Eastern European trade unions or manufacturing companies.

Initially I thought they might be quite cool to stick on a partscaster headstock, but in practice most of them are too small or big.  I spent hours and hours scouring eBay listings but didn't actually buy many of them.

A lot of them have that 1950s/60s "futuristic" vibe which I really like.

I once spent a whole £1 on a set of encyclopedias.  That was over 40 years ago and they are still on the bookcase in front of me now.  Some things just attract us. Don't judge it, just do it.

PS the encyclopedias are now over 100 years old, undated but the latest date they refer to is 1911.

PPS Back then, male impotence made the marriage void but female sterility did not.

  • I absolutely adore tactile things.

Fountain pens vs ball point for example. In photography, no doubt autofocus is the best way to do pretty much anything but I love a nice manual focus lens with an aperture ring. Mmm.

Japanese netsuke. Some of them are amazing.

I can't help about the shape I'm in, I can't sing I ain't pretty and my legs are thin

But don't ask me what I think of you, I might not give the answer that you want me to

I have a small pebble on the desk in my man-cave, which my grandson (then aged three) solemnly declared to be a dinosaur egg when he gave it to me.

  • I like loads of old crap, that's not actually crap.
These are beautiful (& fairly small)-

& as you can see they now sell for silly money. There were loads for sale from a nearby power station when it was stripped out, think they went for about £75 each, but if people were prepared to pay it, much better than them going in a skip. This is quite a basic one, they came with cages, brass ones for ships & lots of other designs for different applications. It's quite possible my Grandfather & Dad fitted a load of these, they would never have had one in the house...

Like the whistle, they're over-built for what they are. Enough, before this makes me sad.
I completely get the enamel pins & brass fittings.

I really like well-designed and well-made artefacts. Anything with an appreciable amount of what my family refer to as "thingness"

That mostly manifests in guitars and watches, but extends to a nicely made pen I got via Kickstarter, and an old wooden nutcracker that used to my grandfather's.

got my Gran/Grandads one at home in a cupboard, It hasn’t been used in years but something I would never get rid of.

I still regret not taking his DE razor when I cleared his house out with my Mum, not that it would have been worth anything, just for  sentimental reasons.

Once in a while I find myself looking at knick-knacks that I have to talk myself out of buying =)  on http://gearpatrol.com/
