The permanent ‘fix’ is to replace them with locking versions (such as Tonepros) which have hex screws allowing their height settings to be ‘locked’.

Somewhere in the dusty corners of mind I thought Gibson fitted these as standard these days - obviously not....

I think they did on the Les Paul Standard in one of the recent years - although I forget which, with all the non-standard stuff they keep doing to it. I could be wrong, it’s hard to keep up with all the changes.

I had a Godin with a bridge / tailpiece combo that was magnetised so that it stayed put. Very neat, although I'm sure that someone somewhere will suggest that the magnetism sucked out all the tone.

Take pictures of everything when you start and as you go along. If the worst comes to the worst you'll at least have a record of what things should look like.

Don't trust your memory, if the phone goes and you're away for fifteen minutes you may have forgotten where you were in the process.

Upgrade to a TonePros locking bridge ... Gibson fit them as standard on some Les Paul models. They're better than the standard bridge and improve intonation, tuning stability and sustain.

...seems a drastic way to keep it 'in tune'!

Interesting. Do they allow more range for the saddles than an abr1?
