Minor Burglary, Major Disappointment.

We were broken into last night, at 3:11am. 5 businesses in total on the farm were hit. It seems that they were just looking for cash tins/banking bags etc. A few broken windows and busted locks seem to be the limit of the damage.

THANKFULLY all of my guitars, amps, customer builds, stock, laptops, camera gear, and all other valuables were left behind. Northants police have been exceptional and SOCO are here now fingerprinting. May have lost some cash but still taking stock.

There's quite a bit of CCTV on site so hopefully, they'll catch the buggers soon.

Crazy thought that if they did clear me out and I wasn't insured, Rift would be closing its doors for good right now.

Sounds like the best possible outcome for a shitty situation - no gear taken and lots of footage.  Still an awful thing to happen, sorry to hear this

Agreed. If they are not caught, they will likely be back.  Burglars have been know to hit the same property repeatedly of pickings are rich. 

Get some motion trigger lights, and some security advice.

In all seriousness, would your insurance even cover you given the inadequate security of that door?

As others have said be careful from this point on.  Maybe they were on foot and just grabbed cash but now have the idea of waiting a while and returning with transport for the heavier stuff.  I'm not trying to scare you as being burgled is a horrible experience.  Just think that over protection is the way forward now.

Yes.

They only require a single 5 lever mortice lock per door. Each door has two separate 5 lever locks and they were inspected and signed off by the insurance company.

It doesn't matter anyway as we're moving premises next week and the landlord is responsible for exterior doors.

Though my understanding is that it's CCTV that puts burglars off these days. I'm not saying don't get a more solid door (and/or tiger), but CCTV makes it a lot more likely that they'll get caught.

Remember to put the recording bit somewhere they can't find it.

CCTV is usually pretty poor and foiled by a hoodie. Interesting that the police and SOCO are being so keen, I'd describe that as unusual for what they will see as minor crime. I'd guess they have a strong idea of who it is and they'll use this to add to their case. 
Glad no major harm done. 


[ Useless anecdote here: in Pobation I used to work with a very tall and loud woman called Janet. In some meeting we had she said that she used to date a SOCO. 
Our manager was Nigerian and didn't always understand everything we said and after the meeting he said to me ' I'm worried about Janet telling everyone she used to date a sicko.']

Just found out that they managed to break through a solid metal security door at another business, so my wooden one was no match for them. They must have had some serious kit with them.

I'm glad it's not as bad as it could have been, but i feel for you all the same. Horrible thing to happen. 
A few years ago my brother ran a car bodyshop, huge industrial unit with solid metal doors, secure as anything. 
Turned up to work one day and the scum had literally knocked a whole in the brick wall and dragged a very valuable motorbike out through it. 
We knew who had done it, the police knew, but nothing was done.
