I wasn't wanting to criticise as such. Just get more of a sense check. 

One of these days I'll get over my hatred of soldering and do it myself. Last time I did any meaningful pickup changing I ended up having to pay someone to rectify my dog-chod of a job. 

I am a ham fisted buffoon but can change pickups, not sure I would relish changing them in my semi hollow but have done strat and wired me tele from scratch (with assistance from the board to be fair!)

My guy charges me £20 per pickup job. So one set out and a new one in would be £20.

if it was £70 I’d learn to solder!

But that would have an apallingly detrimental effect on the TONE, man. 

I'm all about tone. I only play guitars made with ethically sourced timber felled by a logger called Torquil. That man knows his tone-woods.
