saw that this morning, brilliant; video was even worse than I thought it would be. He's definitely a one-off; amazing player with virtually no self-awareness (having said that, this may be very tongue-in-cheek, but I doubt it!). I saw him at GIT in London in the 90s; came in flanked by bodyguards to do a guitar clinic, opened a beer and started smoking before he played anything...at 11 in the morning to a not-full room.

I wouldn't even say that was blues, or at least not in the sense of the stuff I would consider blues. It's rhythm and blues at best

I don't think it's even that. It may have a few chord progressions and scale licks in common with blues but that's as far as the connection goes.

I have similar opinions about Gary Moore's attempts at blues.

Both (IMO) suffer too much from the hard rock/heavy metal interpretation of the form.

The singer in our band used to do sound for guitar shows. Met yngwie a couple of times:

1990s (the drinking years), yngwie is at the next urinal and says:
'You must be pretty impressed to be pissing next to yngwie malmsteen!'
Reply - 'erm............'
He was apparently really hard work all day.

He met him again in the 2000s (post big drinking):
'Hi, I'm yngwie!'
'Actually I did sound for you a few years ago
'Ah - was I a twat to work with?'
'Yep!'

So maybe not as unselfaware as he makes out.........

Wow. That's abysmal. Like, all of it is completely insipid. 
The overall mix was really poor. The guitar playing was completely tasteless, the lyrics are laughable, the video is ridiculous (lots of really naff Ferraris) and I would rather insert a pineapple violently into my rectum than listen to that abhorrent hot mess again.
