crikey Neil - that is bad isn't it

No script logo on the headstock facia - almost a volute on the rear of the headstock behind the nut - tuners - facia looks wrong - control back plate - finish - must be more so will look again - no serial number

  • Wrong shape.  Serial number on the "1966 receipt" isn't one that would be on a 58-60 DC junior.

Also the very obviously not 53-year-old piece of paper with the fresh ink for the receipt...

And especially not as there's a volute on the neck!

Yes it's very fresh isn't it!  Did they even have ballpoint pens in 1966?!!

The brief sojourn into the Wikipedia rabbit hole says yes, but I wouldn't count that in this case's favour.

Serial number (according to the usually excellent serial dater website) - is either:

    1996 or 2006 from Nashville

    1956 Kalamazoo

    1970 Nashville

Well in 1956 a junior would be single cut away, so it's obviously not this one.

    Unbelievable!

"I am selling for a friend" always sets off alarm bells IMO.
More telling perhaps is that there is  no and never has been a Yonge Street in Toronto. (I'm just guessing that last bit).

Enough to send a message from Nelson to the fleet at Trafalgar, I think :).

    70s Japanese?

The case is certainly not that old either.

There is, and there appears to have been a Mundinger's Music Store there in the 50s and 60s. The receipt is probably the only genuine thing there, in fact. It would be nice to find the guitar it originally left the shop with!

I sent a link to this thread to the eBay seller, and below is his response...

New message from: cnnr (524Purple Star)

    Hi,
    Thanks for messaging
I am genuinely selling this guitar for a elderly lady who has just lost her partner to cancer.
I own guitars myself and know a little about them but am not overly clued up on vintage guitars.
The receipt is genuine. The owner lived in Canada for 40 years before settling back in the UK.
Maybe the guitar shop got the description wrong, I don’t know. The forum members possibly know more than I do. If they can tell me what I am selling then I would appreciate any info, but for the time being I will have to go with the information that I have been given.
    Kind regards, Craig.

Thanks again mate, as always, much appreciated!

So, what are we all saying then chaps? 70's Japanese copy that's been stripped? I got some cavity photos from the seller today.....it's not a 50's cavity at all.

I don't have any problem believing the receipt is completely genuine - it just doesn't belong with this guitar. I think it's most likely a stripped 70s Japanese copy.

Some of the wiring looks too modern even for that - the blue-core shielded cable to the jack in particular looks like it's been replaced more recently.

The case is a little odd too - although it's the right width across the lower bout, the cutaway horn area is far too wide and slightly too short, which I think means it must be from a 335S (rare solid-body 335, from the late 70s/very early 80s) - the maroon lining and silver logo would be right for that era.

Doesn’t the receipt show a 50’s serial number? A 56? No double cuts in 56 as mentioned before. Very strange!!!

I saw that one and thought it looked off but I really appreciate the experts pointing out the details.

Here is is another one that has been listed a few times, is it me or is the shape a bit wrong?   Could be the pic angles.  What do we all think?
