I got in last night turned on the telly and the final film in the Bourne Trilogy was on. I'd forgotten what a good film it is. All of the films in the trilogy are pretty decent.

Got me thinking as to what the best / strongest trilogy / quadrilogy and so on, of films there are.

Normally even if an original film and the sequel are good, the next one will be pony.

Like I love Alien and Aliens, but the others are shit.

So, what are your favourites?

I can't help about the shape I'm in, I can't sing I ain't pretty and my legs are thin

But don't ask me what I think of you, I might not give the answer that you want me to

    Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.

    The original versions, obviously. Outstanding.

The alleged word "quadrilogy" was invented by illiterate Hollywood tossers.

It is an offence to language.

I like the Alien films, Alien 3 is my favourite, but only the Directors Cut.

Despite being overhyped and followed by three extremely inferior prequels (which is itself another offence to language), Star Wars/The Empire Strikes Back/Return Of The Jedi is actually pretty damn good.

Toy Story 1/2/3 are also fantastic, although like ROTJ, the third part just drops off a tiny bit at the very end.

And I have to say I don't think The Godfather Part III is at all as bad as it's often made out to be, but it does perhaps stop the trilogy being truly great.

^ This for me.  Toy Story a close second.

Aliens as a trilogy would be up there but I wouldn't go for the whole 'quadrilogy' ( :x ) though as I hate Ressurection about as much as it's possible to hate a film.

The Christopher Nolan Batman's were also a good shout.

There was a third, or should that be turd. ;)

Wasn't terrible but wasn't great either. Not sure if it is "Canon" or not though.

Well, as I deliberately didn't mention it, you can guess my opinion!

I like all the Aliens films, they all have something credible about them (to my easily pleased mind)

Add in the Dollars trilogy for me, great cinema.

'Fistful of Dollars', 'For a Few Dollars More' and 'The Good, The Bad and the Ugly' are sort of a trilogy.  I do like 'em though!

Another +1 for the Bourne films

I did thunk that but wanted to tease.

I do agree that the original films were far superior and the other one was a curiosity best forgotten.

The originals I watched in the cinema loads of times, being as I worked there and one of the perks, not so good when crappy films were on mind. Much better on the big screen.

    +1 How did I forget?!

It's also sometimes said that Once Upon A Time In The West, A Fistful Of Dynamite (AKA Once Upon A Time In The Revolution or Duck, You Sucker!) and Once Upon A Time In America are a sort of trilogy, in which case I'll also nominate that and be fairly sure that Sergio Leone is probably the only director who gets two separate trilogies in the list.
