Might as well  have a  'whats your favourite length of string,' thread(see what I did there).
    Jeff Beck's E string - about 25 1/2 inches.

Not leaving much spare to go through the bridge or up to the tuners there

For the record, John Squire has been the biggest influence on me but there is no "best".

If you go by record sales, you would have to include Steve Clark and Phil Collen.

    And Andrew Ridgeley?

Depending on when you ask me, I'd say one of the following....

    Pete Townshend
    Wilko Johnson
    Dave Davies
    George Harrison
    Johnny Marr
One of the many La's guitarists

American is still producing the goods with the likes of Gary Clarke Jr, Black Keys ect so why are we not?
Ever heard Jake Bugg? Far more inspiring as a guitar player than either of those two, and a lot younger as well.
    Jokes surely ?

  • Guthrie Govan. The others might be more famous and sold more records , but I think he is top of the playing tree.

For me it’s Squire. Groove, Rock and a swagger all without being over the top.

IMO, best in terms of sheer technique but also being able to be really musical with it are:
    Guthrie Goven
    Martin Taylor

best in terms of being extremely skilful but you don't tend to hear much in the way of folks raving about them:
    John Sykes
    Phil Collen

best in terms of who influenced me the most, particularly as a young and developing player:
    Steve Howe
    Steve Hackett
    Jan Cyrka

Not at all - Bugg is a pretty good guitarist as well as a decent songwriter. And certainly more interesting than yet more rehashed blues...

Anyway, the point wasn’t about any specific player really, it was that there are probably far more interesting young guitarists in the British music scene than the American - you just have to look beyond blues and rock, which is why I thought Fenderfan90’s comment was quite ironic.

"Take these three items, some WD-40, a vise grip, and a roll of duct tape. Any man worth his salt can fix almost any problem with this stuff alone." - Walt Kowalski
