The bridge is right for once, but the horn, tuners and pickup surround screws ring alarm bells. I've reported it, so we'll see if eBay do anything.

Thought it was too cheap!

Are you sure it’s a chibson? I’m not particularly knowledgable on these things but I’ve learned from this very forum that the two usual big giveaways are the bridge posts and the fret nibs which both seem to be correct on this guitar.

The proportions on the cutaway are off, and Gibson put black screws in the pickup rings, not gold.

It is definitely a fake, the guitar was in eBay a month ago and asked for pic of serial number and it was completely off.. same seller was selling a Gibson LP Custom in white EMGs... Seller was named Vicento1198, it seems the current seller is a different one as pics looks different.. he could have been scammed then..

    Here original listing

    Hmmm.

    Tricky one, this.

Something about it doesn't look quite "right", especially the screws in the pickup rings.

The upper bout on the body doesn't look proportioned correctly somehow to me.

But it could well be real. There aren't many typical telltale Chibson traits on this one. I feel the position on the truss rod cover looks a bit weird, too. Maybe a bit too high.

    Who knows.

Reading the listing it seems as though the tuners have been changed?

Even so, it could be my eyes at 7am or it could be the camera angle.. but I don’t think the tuner positions are right...

Starting from the top, the right tuner is further from the edge than the left one.

The next two down, the left one is nearly on the binding

Whether that’s the indication of a fake Gibson or a poor job replacing the tuners it still looks unsightly imo.

I think it is legit, there’s definitely something wrong with it though as above, it’s been sold cheaply several times over and moved on within a couple of weeks on eBay - somethings off about it, maybe badly repaired or similar? The serial number looks highly dubious, and also photographed at a deliberately obtuse angle . Edit - also all the corners of the headstock have been sanded down, possibly to accommodate a new neck, which may explain the dodgy serial? I wouldn’t touch it with a barge pole

  • See pics of the internal cavities and serial number that the previous owner sent me..

I know there have been variations and slight differences in the Gibson logo on the headstocks over the years. But when you put a real logo alongside the one listed here it’s quite funny how bad it is :)

The one for sale here looks like it’s let itself go over the last 30 years ;)

  • There’s something not right but I don’t think it’s a Chinese fake. The lifting of the lacquer around the tuners is not something I’ve seen on a poly-finished guitar, and would you find a Chibson with an ebony board? The biggest clue about replacement tuners is not the position viewd from the front, but the fact that the original retaining screws have been left in! Presumably because that looks better than open screw holes.

Real LPC’s also don’t seem to have joins at the corners on the top edge of the headstock.

@thermionic there are ways and means of staining wood to replicate ebony. I’ve also seen non nitro finished lifting like this but tbh I’m ignorant to what sort of finish it was. Maybe acrylic of some sort?

Its not a gibson, whether it came from China or not it sure as shit didn’t come from America. Fakes are getting very good, but they still have issues.

Think I'm gonna stop buying Gibson's if this is fake. I wouldn't of know especially when nibs are present. Was offered a fake Standard years ago but that was laughably obvious. Everything faked now:( Have you seen the openly fake luxury watch sites? Disgraceful. Scum Bags

Original LP Customs from that era had no screws on the back of the tuners. Serial number looks like it was stamped with a lump hammer.

  • Highly suspect control cavity, and that serial number is hilarious - could it be a chibson that has been cunningly modded to more closely resemble a real one? Beginning to agree that the whole thing is thoroughly wack now.

  • I have been told it is a burny with a Gibson logo installed.. it would make total sense if you look at the control cavities..

It still doesn’t explain the shoddy binding work on the headstock. Burny customs also seem to have continuous binding at the corners
