Fender took control of Getsch manufacturing around 2004, and greatly improved accuracy and specification, and hardware quality. As a result, values of Pre Fender Gretsch models is lower than post. 2004 models.
However, some pre Fender models (such as the Annie), were mostly correct by 2000, and as a result are a great bargain on the used market.
Upshot, pay less for pre Fender models. Quality is great, hardware can be a bit iffy.
Note: Fender do not own Gretsch, hey just do all the manufacturing, distribution, and sales for Gretsch.
I know Herritage built less than 100 between 1991 and 1997. All hand carved tops (Japan uses vintage correct three or five layer pressed maple tops).
I’ve only ever seen one, which was a G410 Synchomatic. Beautifully built.
One day, I’d like to get a Hamer built Gretsch Spectrasonic. My Gretsch shopping list is quite lengthy
We may have to compare lengths. Really appreciate your input.
