Jazzmasters always look a bit SG to me. I was thinking maybe a Jaguar.  I mean Johnny Marr virtually strums one over the fretboard but then again he does hang it around his knees.

I'll add it to the list.
I find Jazzmasters too long to the left. Jaguars are good - 14th fret strap button position, but the neck is effectively one fret shorter than the Jazzmaster at the nut end.

22-fret PRSs also have a 14th fret strap button position.

And you can extend that strap button position even further by using a single Schaller style strap lock on the upper horn only.

Or even further with a Dunlop.

That's actually one of the main reasons I don't like either of them - they put a lot of stress on the screw and the wood, exactly because they lift the strap far too far from the body.

Thanks for all the enlightening responses.  I do not feel so alone now.   I used to have one of these things pictured below so it all makes sense.

That completely explains it! An identical one to this was my first electric guitar...

It's an incredibly comfortably shape, more so than a 'proper' Strat for me.

Look for another one - they're not that rare or expensive, and if you get one of the earlier Japanese Matsumoku-made ones they're really good quality, apart from the pickups on some models. The later Korean ones aren't quite as good.

Ah - forgot the left-handed bit. That does make it much more difficult. I'll keep a look out for left-handed Arias though...

Failing that, get one of these:

or the better value LTD version.  =)

+1 for the "hang it on your hip" guys. SGs are super-comfortable if you do that.

Failing that, an ES-330 or Epiphone Casino is very "compact" feeling, as long as you can get past the big body.

Hmmm dunno if I should be considering Super-strats at this point in my life but if it feels right.

I have an Ibanez Artcore.   Even that sits a bit too far out. It is the comfiest so far. I assumed it was down to scale length but now I wonder.

I need a telecaster with 14 fret body join with a slightly shorter scale. A Ukelele?

Funnily enough, Durango Guitar Works do something that's basically a twin humbucker Tele with a 24 inch scale. I was looking at them a while ago, but there was no way I could try one without ordering blind and paying import taxes.

Sounds like you need a left-handed Telemaster, possibly with Jaguar scale. Unfortunately you'll need to build it yourself I think...

I had a Music Man Axis Sport which - in my memory, at least - hung a long way to the right.

It doesn't have a long upper horn, it's roughly parallel with the 14th/15th frets, but there's very little length of body below the bridge - I wonder if that makes a difference?

Other options that spring to mind are Femder Jaguar (long bass horn and short scale both help) or Manson Matt Bellamy model (or its Cort cheap version)

Another vote for Strats here. Lefties available, a variety of pick up configurations available.

It was still in the (extended) family until recently.  Another one I gave away.  It might still be but there is a point were it becomes rude to ask and I might find out it has been chucked.

It has been a revelation just moving the guitar 4 inches to the left.  The SG angling tip above helps in some cases as well.  At least I know what to look for when I next go shopping.

    Thanks everyone.

I agree with @Phil_aka_Pip  a Gibson ES330 is super light and as the neck joins the body deeper than a 335 it’s better balanced.
