Ebow is fun. Clip on polytune is more useful.

This is my favourite ebow song...

I have one, it's fun with fuzz and octave

Definitely worth getting for the enjoyment of it.

I kind of thought it would be easy to pick up and play but it's actually quite tricky, would take practice to get good.

Like I said ' I too thought "I really could do with an eBow' . Turns out, there wasn't much. I love the sonic possibilities for fooling around, but they are a bit of a bugger to use 'properly' finding sweet spots, not colliding with strings etc.'   I feel your pain  :+1:

I used mine when we did a cover of heroes - haven’t used it since... no issues with ebows - just my lack of creativity...

Explosions in the Sky are my go to ebow recommended listen. Here's me making average sounds with one.

I think the obvious band missing from this list is Big Country. They were certainly my introduction to the EBow, and it's all over The Crossing LP.

I use it over the neck pickup, but back it off slightly to reduce the volume because it can overdrive quite easily.

Big Country - The Storm - Live 1984

I see that TC Electronics are making a competitor - anybody compared them?

Apart from Bowie's Heroes, I can't think of a single song where it is essential (or even useful).
Fripp definitely didn't use an Ebow on Heroes and he doesn't use it now when Crimson do their version of it.

I think the first use was Steve Hackett on the album The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway.
Forget which song- it is somewhere there.

It is one of those devices I'd always suggest buying two of, if you can.
They always seem to break at the wrong moment, especially if you are gigging regularly and they end up rattling around in a gig bag or case.
Or get a padded box for it to live in.

If you get an eBow, you'll have lots of fun messing about with it and it might spark off something creative or personal. I use one (with a volume pedal) and can lose hours with it.

    That was my hope.
