  • Ride - Leave them all behind. Starts with won’t get fooled again style synth, then come in the drums, then the driving bassline, then the wall of noise guitars. Magnificent.

Mick Ronson’s sustained howl of feedback at the beginning of Bowie’s Width Of A Circle.
Good choice, I'd go with Cracked Actor for Bowie/Ronson...

That really is a gloriously filthy start-up there from Mr Ronson

For me this is easy, Gimme Shelter.  Decided it was the best intro a many years ago and never changed my mind.  Somewhat surprisingly never learned to play Keef's part, mainly because I can rarely be arsed with alternative tunings.

I've never bought into this quote by the Fabian Marxist George Bernard-Shaw. I always thought patriotism was about a shared identity and culture, which has allowed us (and the USA) to develop the best song introductions in the world. Other countries are better at other things, which come out of their own unique cultures.

BTW isn't this the better Rolling Stones intro?  ;)

Honky Tonk Women, Rock & Roll, When the Levee Breaks, The Rocker - all excellent best intros

Always had a soft spot for Rush's Spirit of the Radio (it's one of the few Rush tracks I like)

I once gave someone a heck of a fright with Led Zep I...

He came around to buy a pair of Tannoy speakers and I put the CD on, which of course has no track noise, so it just hit the opening chords with no warning!

It's The Spirit of Radio. But I'll blame that YouTube clip. ;)
