Mick Ronson’s sustained howl of feedback at the beginning of Bowie’s Width Of A Circle.
Good choice, I'd go with Cracked Actor for Bowie/Ronson...

That really is a gloriously filthy start-up there from Mr Ronson
Ha, ha, yeah 'filthy' is exactly the word that comes to mind whenever I hear that.

That's a perfect intro imo. Bit of drums, nice bass tone, feedback, pick slide and we're off.

The Bigsby was the first successful design of what is now called a whammy bar or tremolo arm, although vibrato is the technically correct term for the musical effect it produces. In standard usage, tremolo is a rapid fluctuation of the volume of a note, while vibrato is a fluctuation in pitch. The origin of this nonstandard usage of the term by electric guitarists is attributed to Leo Fender, who also used the term “vibrato” to refer to what is really a tremolo effect.

The Beatles and Help - One chord - Instantly recognisable - you don't even need 2 chords to know what song it is

Maybe on a similar vain that first Bm chord to Hotel California

I also love that catchy intro to Little Green Bag - Reservoir Dogs

And how about the solo at 2:50-ish :)

Lots of good ones and I play quite a few live - that's a good indication of what ones work well!
One for personal reasons that stands out as being epic at the time is Up the Beach - first track on Nothing's Shocking by Jane's Addiction - it was so powerful. Listening now the production lets it down though.

AC/DC have to be the masters tho - Back In Black for me.

Alas, this doesn't quite meet the OP's "best start..." criteria, especially as the drum intro is only to cover for the fact SV is changing guitar. If that was the case we'd come up with lot's of these intro's where the musicians are playing a version of musical chairs. Don't get me wrong, Vai's a fantastic player, but I didn't think this thread was about solos mid-way through songs. Sorry to rain on your suggestion.

The song is let down by the chorus though  ;)

Yes, sorry Fandango and sorry Equalsql. I actually meant the intro from the 2-handed tapping into the tutti section, which I think is superb but perhaps it doesn’t qualify as good enough. I should have posted the studio version which doesn’t have the drum intro but this version is altogether better. Please ignore my suggestion to listen to the solo as well, as it was not relevant to the topic.
