Ebay listing title annoyance

What's Hot

Urgh.. so I’m trying to find the best Strat style guitar for a certain (admittedly low) price.

Having now been playing guitar for 23 years, I’ve seen fads come and go and also remember the opinions of many guitars in that era being total crap..

So am I only person that automatically gets turned off when the ward ‘Rare’ is used in the title of an add? Like Rare Squier Strat (MIC) or some other crappily made plank (i.e. generic chinese etc)?

Or the ultimate, listing a guitar as a Fender when the guitar is anything but a fender .. oh and when people put Fender decals on squiers/other Far Eastern Strats?…

This is obviously a rant as I’ve been unable to find a Strat — which seems ridiculous when you consider it’s probably the most popular/copied guitar

Thanks for listening :-)

...or just post what you want, along with your budget, here.

If the two bits of info are compatible, I'm sure you'll be sorted in a day or two.

Completely get the rare thing. I'm always trawling and it really bugs me - no, your "limited edition" Epiphone isn't rare, it was in production for five years. Also, even when something is rare, that doesn't necessarily mean it's desirable - maybe it's rare because it was crap and no one bought any.

A “rare” guitar should be one that’s limited edition. If they make a shedload and they don’t sell, that doesn’t make them rare... it makes them crap.

Funnily enough, I have a rare Strat for sale. It’s a lefty, but don’t let that put you off...  ;)

What what what ?  You want to change the definition of the word “rare” from what it actually means, that is there aren’t many of them around ?

I’m not sure I’d buy a guitar that was described as undercooked...

I think Fender was chasing down certain mislabelled partscasters for a while, I remember someone complaining a while back that their listings were removed for trademark violations... but that must be a super intensive job trying to keep up with it and surely the ROI on having a company patrol eBay 24/7 is minimal...

Not that this half-remembered anecdote is remotely helpful... :-p

I'd imagine it could be done by grabbing all listings that have fender in the name under a certain monetary value, then double checking those?

I just don't get it though.. some vague photo , some vague fender model.. look at the photos realise it isn't actually anything to do with Fender.. grinds my gears ... but it's halfway through the working day now so feeling better LOL

    Define “rare”.

Some things are rare because very few of them were made in the first instance.

Some things are scarce because their overseas manufacturer elected not to import very many of them to the UK.

Some things become rare due to neglect, the fact that they are utter crap or, occasionally, both. For example, by the mid-Eighties, in the UK, Lancia Beta cars were rare because most of them had oxidised to brown dust.

Some things become difficult to obtain because their owners like them too much to part with them.

Some things are just old. These are the items that Internet vendors need to hype up in the hope of converting them into loadsamoney. They have heard rumours that old guitars are valuable. They assume that this applies to ALL old guitars.

You say, atom bomb. I say, tin of corned beef.

Rare means not a lot of, so even a crap guitar can still be rare, it has no bearing what so ever on quality, some old things mean something to someone but not everyone, Ford Escorts were crap, Fiat 131's even crapper,  fuck me, a Fiat 128, very crap but try buying one now.

Yes, I missed out on one l@@king like that for a rare1951 Stratocaster factory fitted original with a pre PAF humbucker. Was previously owned by Jimmy Hendrickson and Derek Clapham.

Reason I missed it was because the seller listed it as a Fedner. Ah you snooze you lose!

Clearly, you didn't heed the sage prophecy that often accompanies the adverts of expert level Facebook sellers ... "first to see will buy"

A local bedroom flipper keeps putting "any trial" in his adverts. I entertain thoughts of going round to see one of his guitars and taking the local branch of the Spanish Inquisition with me.
