Talk me out of getting a Danelectro...

Nah, Danos are great. Big fan of the 90s Korean reissues. 
If you like a bit of fuzz they sound great together. 
The bridges are pretty trash and they do collapse in the centre but easy enough to replace. Mine has a Jeff Senn DRB2 bridge now.

Cool, could you put a Tele half bridge (top loader)  on?

@lovestrat74 You can put a Tele half bridge on but it does require some drilling to fit. 
I actually used a Wilkinson half bridge on an old blue Dano I had. I was stupid and sold that guitar and wish I didn't.
