FREE! - Partially working Blackstar ID Core 20

Blackstar ID Core 20 first generation.

My baby son helpfully twisted the jack socket detaching the ribbon cable that connects it to the main board.
As a result the guitar input doesn't work, but the line in does so I've been using it attached to a phone as a radio while decorating which it does extremely well (so I'm sure the power module and speakers are fine). As a result it's quite dirty and scuffed.

I think someone with a soldering iron and the inclination could probably fix it in about 20 minutes.

I already have an Origin and a Katana and it's not worth the price of a repair to sell it so I figured I'd see if anyone here wanted it before taking it to the tip.

I'd really rather not post so if someone wants it they are welcome to collect from Bury St Edmunds. I'm also sometimes in Cambridge.

If it’s *just* reconnecting the jack socket, then I’d take it to have a go.

I’ll be over there in a couple of weeks for new-teeth-day!

If it helps, this is ribbon cable area on an ID Core 20... it’s not too tricky to fix imho

That cable tends to go faulty on the joints due to vibration ... I had one pretty much donated to me on here for my stepson and one of the faults was that cable.
This is a perfect example of modern design from the world of PC's and I.T equipment being implemented to musical gear without any fault of the issues that will be caused by vibration.

Basically move any solid core cable back and forth enough times ...  even a 1\4 of a millimeter and it will eventually snap

Hot glue on the joints once redone will help but it is a shit design

    Yep, that's the badger.

The two connections at the end have come off.

I think the cable @impmann shows is the only problem.

OK - just to prove that you *can* give things away here, I’ll take it and get the soldering iron warmed up!

BTW, the wiring on the Gretsch looks a big dodgy too ...

    And it lives ...

A bit fiddly, but careful application of v sharp knife to expose the broken wires, and then a hot soldering iron seems to have worked!

    Cheers Nick

I'll let you know ... sometime.

I've damaged the Ulnar nerve in my left arm/hand which means I've currently got 2 non-working fingers (little & ring) and no sort of grip in the others.  Try fretting when your left fingers don't work!
